Questions! And a request!

If you have a question about which category something fits into, or about the bidding process, please ask it here.

ETA: If you don't specify the currency for bidding, we will automatically presume that it's US dollars. If people want to use a currency converter, to keep things even we can use the cnnfn.com one, or Paypal's automated process.

And is anyone able to do some simple "Help Haiti" icons that people can use on LJ, DW, etc.? Much appreciation to anyone who can!

At this point (5 PM on Wednesday) I am not monitoring all comments to every post - I've turned off LJ's emailing to me all the comments for all the offering posts (except the lightning round), so if there's something I need to see, make sure it's a comment to one of the other posts.

THANKS SO MUCH TO EVERYONE for offering, bidding, pimping and cheering people on. The news out of Haiti is so grim - hopefully this will be a way for so many people around the world to help.

I replied to my winner in my auction thread, but the comment is still screened. I just wanted to make sure that she got the notification and that I'm not the only one who can see my comment.

Thanks. :)

Yes, if she has comment notifications turned on, or comes to that thread.

My bidder confirmed their donation, but their total donation is the combination of everything they'd won. So my podfic is only worth $12, but they donated a total of $25. At the donor confirmation station do I post their $12 donation or the do I include the total $25?

Just what she donated for you. Thanks so much for participating!

I got a notification from you guys in this thread http://community.livejournal.com/help_haiti/1571.html?thread=840995#t840995

saying my winner had donated, but I have 5 winners and I'm not sure which one it's meant to be for...

Sigh, I can't tell. I've checked through our inbox and the spreadsheet and I can't figure it out. Do you want to PM all of them and ask them to confirm-or-reconfirm?

SO sorry about the glitch!

You can read about the "how to donate" process here. We're not 100% sure how we are going to have things listed for auction for the second round, which will take place sometime in February, but we'll have an extensive how-to/FAQ beforehand here at this comm.
Thank you so much for your interest and support!

Hey --

just FYI, I haven't heard from my winning bidder, and I did try to contact her myself...

Hi - I've been contacted by three of the four people who won items that I offered, but nary a peep out of the fourth. The bid was for a scarf and I'd like to get started. Should I contact the high bidder (I think it was mokie_sassafras directly? Thanks!

Yes, definitely! Go ahead.

Hi.

I haven't heard from my winning bidder yet. I did try to contact them, but haven't received a reply.

My offering: http://community.livejournal.com/help_haiti/2138.html?thread=2726490#t2726490

Technically, they have until Feb 5 to pay, but we are going to encourage winning bidders to get in touch with Offerors even if they can't pay until Jan 30/Feb 1, or sometime in the week after. We'd wanted to give a little leeway for people who couldn't donate until payday....

Offering Greenwood Tarot Reading

Hi, I received a mail the other day from my top bidder soleta_nf stating that they notified you that they had confirmed their payment through you with a receipt for multiple auctions. I've not heard anything back as yet on it, should I have? It was for this auction item: http://community.livejournal.com/help_haiti/2138.html?thread=2961242#t2961242 I'm fine doing their reading, but I just wanted to check.

Re: Offering Greenwood Tarot Reading

Got it! We're still working through the confirmation notifications, and I'm sorry for the delays! She's all set.

I donated to a non-listed charity with the consent of the people I bid upon, and sent them confirmation. Two went to the Donation Confirmation Station, but several days later, one of them has not. What do I do?

You can send it to us at helphaiti.lj -at- gmail.com with a note explaining the situation. If you cc-ed us before, it'll have been noted, as well.

Hi, I'd contacted the winning bidder via LJ message and still haven't heard from them.

Hey! :o) I don't think you should worry about not getting a response yet. I've only sent out e-mails/messages to the offerers whose bids I won yesterday myself, both because I've been busy and because I have to wait to be able to make a donation. Your bidder may be in a similar situation and not have gotten around to it yet. If you haven't heard from them by the end of the week, though, do let us know.

What should I do about confirming winning or confirming payment to you guys on auctions in the lightning round? I saw that the confirmation station wasn't for lightning round, and that confirmation of winning was done by offerors only there. Should I be doing a little You Won! post even though I notified them both privately? Is there anywhere to confirm payment to you guys from lightning round?

No, you don't need to do anything for the Lightning round. :o) We assume your bidder paid up and showed proof of this to you before you provided them with what you were offering. If by any chance one of your bidders doesn't pay up, it would be nice to leave a note so the mods know not to take that bid into account; but I don't think we've had that problem yet.

I haven't heard from 2 of my winners: luredbyvenus and femmequixotic, despite trying to contact them myself. My thread is here: http://community.livejournal.com/help_haiti/822.html?thread=3394614#t3394614

Also, I asked on an earlier page about who is expected to pay the postage for overseas shipping?

As for shipping, heidi8 added a note on Saturday morning, when she realised it might be an issue:

ETA on Saturday morning If the item will be sent in a package to the winner, please indicate whether the winner will pay shipping, or if you will, or if you'll work it out between the two of you. If there are limitations on where it can be sent, please indicate this too. Additional Info is probably the best place but a comment to your original post is fine too.

Since we are now after the fact, I think it might be best if you discuss it with your bidders (once you get in contact with them) and see if you can find a compromise?

I haven't heard from one of my winners: http://community.livejournal.com/help_haiti/1823.html?thread=5414943#t5414943. I did try to contact hir myself via PM, but haven't heard anything yet.

I haven't heard from one of my winning bidders here, tried to contact her via PM and email, but no reply as of yet: http://community.livejournal.com/help_haiti/822.html?thread=745014#t745014 (it's re: wolfwind_writes.)

Hi! :o) I've got a question concerning one of the confirmations, namely the one here: http://community.livejournal.com/help_haiti/10005.html?thread=8927765#t8927765.

We haven't been registering matching donations from employers, since we can't check up on it, but we have been asking offerers who matched their winning bidder's amount to send confirmation to the mod address so we can register it (and registered any extra matching donations from other bidders if they've send proof to the offerer). However, in this case, it seems to be a third party not involved in the auction - but who could provide proof. Should they send the proof along for the bid to be registered?

Well, it's not really for a bid, but a matching donation. So it's useful to know, but we aren't really including them in the toals - if we do, it would work sort of the way that people who round up their donations are.
