Questions! And a request!

If you have a question about which category something fits into, or about the bidding process, please ask it here.

ETA: If you don't specify the currency for bidding, we will automatically presume that it's US dollars. If people want to use a currency converter, to keep things even we can use the cnnfn.com one, or Paypal's automated process.

And is anyone able to do some simple "Help Haiti" icons that people can use on LJ, DW, etc.? Much appreciation to anyone who can!

At this point (5 PM on Wednesday) I am not monitoring all comments to every post - I've turned off LJ's emailing to me all the comments for all the offering posts (except the lightning round), so if there's something I need to see, make sure it's a comment to one of the other posts.

THANKS SO MUCH TO EVERYONE for offering, bidding, pimping and cheering people on. The news out of Haiti is so grim - hopefully this will be a way for so many people around the world to help.

Is there a deadline for the fic that I bid on? I've only gotten one message from the author, so how can I make sure that it's official?

Did you bid in the general auction or the second lightning round? In theory, the final date for completion on the general auction was mid-February. If you haven't heard from your offerer yet, I think it would be a good idea to send them a friendly e-mail to ask if they're still working on it. People often get overwhelmed by RL, writing block, etc, and there might just be a slight delay. :o)

I am so sorry to be slow. I got hit with H1N1, and so did my kids. Then I had a death in my family. So I have been down and off line for quite a while. I promise to get the things to you this week (hoping this weekend).

just out of curiosity, when is the next standard auction? thanks.

I have already made my donation and sent my offeror the confirmation which she confirmed she has received. This was quite a while ago and she hasn't contacted me ever since. I sent her an PM in which I told her how I would like her to design the cards on which I bid, but she doesn't respond.

What am I supposed to do know?

Sorry for asking this so late. I didn't mind the deadline, so I thought I'd wait sometime, but since there's still no answer ...
It's okay for me to have made the donation without getting anything in return, but well, since it was the purpose of the community ...

Hi! :o)

Can I ask when you last PM'd her? If it was several weeks back, could you possibly send her a friendly e-mail/PM asking if she's still working on it? I can imagine it may have ended up taking a bit more time than anticipated, and that she is perhaps waiting to finish before contacting you.

If she still doesn't respond, or if you'd rather not send her another message, let us know, and we'll try and contact her as well.

I won an auction, paid, confirmed the payment here: http://community.livejournal.com/help_haiti/1225.html?thread=2258633#t2258633 and the icon maker nokitas still hasn't made the requested graphics. I am sure you guys have your hands full, and I don't expect to get anything at this point, but I just wanted to let you know. I have contacted the person a couple times, but it's been more than two weeks since your soft deadline.

I don't have comments set on my LJ, please PM with any questions/comments. Thank you.

Hi! :o) Thank you for your enthusiasm; your help would be much appreciated. We will be putting up a post requesting pinch-hitters as soon as we know which offers are definitely being defaulted on, and not just late.

Kinda weird question: I offered a beta in the original regular (not Lightning Round) auction and while the winning bidder's bid was confirmed and we had a bit of communication, I haven't heard from her since Jan. 21 and she never responded to my last pm. Her journal is mostly flocked, but she has updated since January. What I really want to know is what I need to do at this point - I'm still willing to beta for her, but I'd really like to know if she doesn't want/need it anymore so I can potentially offer again in the new auction. Also I don't want it to look like I've defaulted!

Long comment, I know! ^_^; Thank you to all the mods for putting this huge thing together. <3

Hi! :o) When bidders don't contact you again, our policy is generally to reply that it's up to you whether you're still able to fulfil their bid when they do finally contact you, and over what period of time you would be able to. I understand your dilemma there, though, so if you like, I could try to send her a PM for you? Please give me the thread of the offer in that case, though, and the name of the bidder (you're welcome to either put them in a comment here or to PM them to me if you prefer). But it's up to you - you could also send her another message saying that if you don't get a definite answer, it might take you a while to complete the beta. :o)

Hello, I know I am very late in this process. But I would like to offer my services if you guys need any pitch-hitters in he Graphics department. Also, would like to enter if there would be another auction. Just let me know.

Hi! :o) Just to let you know that there should indeed be another auction someday soon, but that we'd like to finish wrapping this one up properly, first.

I will be putting up a preliminary list of items for which we need pinch-hitters tomorrow evening - however, it will only contain confirmed defaults, and offers from people we have contacted very early on, since answers still keep trickling in. I don't think it will include any graphics offers yet, but we're definitely still waiting for an answer on some graphics offers, so we may be in need of your help yet. :D

Either way, thank you very much for offering; it's much appreciated!

Thank you for your interest! There will indeed be another auction round soon. I can't give you an exact date since we're still wrapping up the previous round, but you will definitely still get the chance to offer up fic for donations. :o)

Mods, I've received a donation from laura47 and confirmed it, but I'm having a lot of trouble getting a hold of her for her mailing address. I've tried the e-mail she used to donate from two of my addresses, as well as LJ PM and a comment in her journal.

I don't want her to not receive her items, but it's been a very long time since she donated and I haven't heard from her since!

Hi! Have you had any more luck contacting her by now (apologies for the late reply, here!)? If not, could you give me the link to the offer?

We can't really do more than you did, to be honest, but we have had some issues with people not receiving e-mails/notifications, so it may definitely be worth it for someone else to have a try!

Dos the two month paid LJ account per $10 Help_Haiti-VGift donation received still apply?

Hi! If you want to be 100% certain, I think that's more a question for the LJ Team, but I'm fairly sure the 2 months free time for reception of $10 in any type of V-Gift is a fixed feature. :o)

Hi! :o) Could you please complete the form over here? Thank you!

this might be a silly question... but i figured it would be quicker to just ask than to scroll through pages trying to figure it out on my own. so:

i know it's been months -- are all current auctions closed, or are people still bidding on stuff?

Hi! :o) Apologies for the ridiculously late answer, but no, at this point people aren't bidding anymore. There should be a new round of auctioning in the future, though, if there is enough manpower to organise it!

I suppose this community has been inactive for a while. I was wondering, though: with the recent cholera outbreak in Haiti, and now the prospect of a tropical storm further adding to the disaster, is there any possibility of another round of auctions here?

I missed out on this community's efforts originally. I've since participated at gulf_aid_now, though, and I'd very much like a chance to put in a similar effort for Haiti.

Because of the name of this community, we have opted not to use it to host auctions or fundraisers for other projects, but we have assisted both help_chile and help_pakistan set up auction projects last year, and would be able to do the same for anyone interested in doing something for Australia.
