Questions! And a request!

If you have a question about which category something fits into, or about the bidding process, please ask it here.

ETA: If you don't specify the currency for bidding, we will automatically presume that it's US dollars. If people want to use a currency converter, to keep things even we can use the cnnfn.com one, or Paypal's automated process.

And is anyone able to do some simple "Help Haiti" icons that people can use on LJ, DW, etc.? Much appreciation to anyone who can!

At this point (5 PM on Wednesday) I am not monitoring all comments to every post - I've turned off LJ's emailing to me all the comments for all the offering posts (except the lightning round), so if there's something I need to see, make sure it's a comment to one of the other posts.

THANKS SO MUCH TO EVERYONE for offering, bidding, pimping and cheering people on. The news out of Haiti is so grim - hopefully this will be a way for so many people around the world to help.

I also meant to ask. Could you possibly make a post where people could request certain items or rare pairings/fandoms and such? Like they'd make a post saying what they want and how much they were willing to offer and then someone that could fill it would respond.

Yes, I was also wondering about maybe a "weird requests" post. I'd love to donate for a vid with a (specific) rare source, but I'm sure I'm not going to come across someone offering it because the source is weird.

Just a thought!

This's probably something of a silly question, but I figure I should ask it anyway. I've already posted a drabble offer to the lightning round thingie, but I'd still love to add something to the larger fic auction. Am I allowed to offer fic in both places?

*hopeful*

Definitely! And thank you so much!

Sorry if this was already answered somewhere... I was wondering if I'm allowed to offer fic in a language other than English.

Yes, absolutely! Just say so in the Offering section.

Just a quick question:

I'd love to offer up fanfic for this: is it too late to put myself in for the auction, or can I still do that?

Thanks!

~Nebula

Yes, you can add yourself to the Auction up through 6 AM on Wednesday, January 20 (Eastern Standard Time)

This is closed to fan art offerings, correct?

Do you mean, are original stories, art, etc allowed? Yes - some published authors have donated books in the WORDS section, for example.

Will I be contacted by the offerer if I win? I have to admit that I've lost track of all my bids!

By the offerer or by someone from the comm - we'll give a list of names of people who will be helping with this early next week here on the com.

You might be able to find your bids via your LJ Inbox, and then set up tracking things for the comments you've replied to.

I'd like to offer both an original fiction and fanfiction offer - as in, one of each. Should I list them both in the same bid or make seperate posts?

You should do separate posts so the bidding doesn't get confusing. THANKS so uch for participating!

I'm English, which means I'm not a dollar girl. Do I still say so and so dollars as the bid, or can I used pounds? Or can I use both?

I saw on a different post's comments that dollars are the default currency for this community, just to make things easier. But you can specify your local currency if you prefer. :) HTH.

I made a donation to Doctors Without Borders before looking at the comm ... and now I see a tasty treat I would have bid on. Would that previous donation still "count" as a bid? I have the confirmation email.

Mmmmm....

A lot of people donated before finding the auction, so it would be ideal if you donated again, but if you absolutely cannot, ask the Offeror if s/he is ok with it. If so, then that'll be okay.

My work is offering matching donations, so would it be possible for me to work something out with you privately if I win an auction? (I don't want my fannish name to become a known entity at work.)

Definitely! Confirmations can definitely be done by the Offeror, with the winner sending the info directly to the Offeror, or by me. I am trustworthy when it comes to real names.

Books would go into the Words section, but the three items could go into Something Interesting. If you're doing it as one auction, you could put them in either but if you're going to do them separately, that's terrific, too.

There is now ;)

Check it out here.

Hi! Would you please edit my post for me to indicate that the higher the bid the longer the fic? I tried to but couldn't, I'm sorry.

My post is on page 4 of the thread.

I can't edit other people's posts. But you could comment to your own post instead, and people should see it, or at least click to read it. Thanks so much for participating!

You could put it in Words or in Something Interesting - your call. And thank you for participating!

Hi,

I don't know if this will be helpful, but I've seen a lot of comments on LJ where people are asking what charity is the best one to donate to.

I thought I'd drop off this link:

http://www.charitynavigator.org/index.cfm?bay=content.view&cpid=1004

The web site is Charity Navigator. They monitor and rate charities. This link in particular gives people advice on donating to charities for the Haitian earthquake effort -- what charities are safe, what not to do, etc...

I hope it helps.
