Questions! And a request!

If you have a question about which category something fits into, or about the bidding process, please ask it here.

ETA: If you don't specify the currency for bidding, we will automatically presume that it's US dollars. If people want to use a currency converter, to keep things even we can use the cnnfn.com one, or Paypal's automated process.

And is anyone able to do some simple "Help Haiti" icons that people can use on LJ, DW, etc.? Much appreciation to anyone who can!

At this point (5 PM on Wednesday) I am not monitoring all comments to every post - I've turned off LJ's emailing to me all the comments for all the offering posts (except the lightning round), so if there's something I need to see, make sure it's a comment to one of the other posts.

THANKS SO MUCH TO EVERYONE for offering, bidding, pimping and cheering people on. The news out of Haiti is so grim - hopefully this will be a way for so many people around the world to help.

i'm thinking of offering fanart, but i'm afraid i'm a bit confused as to how it would work. if i wanted to draw, for example, would i draw according to the highest bidder's commission? or do i create a piece first, and then people bid on it?

furthermore, would it be alright if i simply put the art online? i'm not able to mail it out, and emailing the bidder his/her commission would be the most convenient method :D

Hi, just wondering where I should offer poetry? Since it's technically words but it's not really fiction-as-such, or necessarily fannish. Words post? Miscellaneous?

Thanks for all you're doing here ♥

Definitely words. Cool offer, and thanks for participating!

So if someone bids, how and when do they pay, and where to?

We just put up a bit of a FAQ this evening on the main page of the comm - look in the righthand sidebar about halfway down.

Winning bidders can donate to a slew of charities - the list that was posted yesterday will definitely be a part of that final list, as will each country's Red Cross, Red Crescent, OXFAM and UNICEF offices. Payments will go directly to the charity/agency, not to the Offeror.

The confirmation process isn't finalized yet - we're talking to people who organized other charity auctions - but we'll have it up by Monday.

I'm really interesting in offering knit items to auction. I'm President of my school's knitting club and I know we can offer multiple items, so would it be possible if, like, the top 5 or top 10 highest bidders could request what they wanted from a group of items offered? Like, if we offer scarves, hats, and keychains, maybe a few bidders could potentially get what they want just for donating or something along those lines?

Cool! Put it in Artistry or Misc. and explain that in the Offering. It's kind of like a Dutch Auction - just choose the number of people who'd win.

I want to do an auction but I'm REALLY confused about how. (I've tried reading things and well, I'm MORE confused now- I'm having a really bad day, brainwise. Is there anyone that can help? I want to auction off a custom needlefelted sculpture of the bidder's choice?

Oh, cool! Something interesting, definitely! I love stuff like this!

I've bid on quite a few threads but some of the bids are small. Will I need to make separate contributions for each auction or will there be a way for me to total the donation and just make one or a lesser number of contributions?

Totalling will be fine, but it might be easier to have you confirmation done by a mod, when the time comes.

If we offer food or a misc gift box of sorts, do we have to match the donation?
Like if someone bids $50, do we need to spend $50 on the items for them?

(I am not a mod, but to the best of my knowledge this information is correct.)

Hi I just have a quick question about offering icons/graphics etc. Once the bidding is over and the icons are all finished afterwards some time, do they get sent straight to the seller? like say i made some icons for the winner, do I post them at a special entry or just upload them only for that user? I'm just a little confused as to how that transaction would take place.

Generally you can upload or email it right to the user - sometimes people use megaupload or googledocs with a zipped file - but if the winner doesn't mind if they're public, you can just use your LJ's "pics" option and put them there for the winner to take.

If it would help in any way shape or form I would be happy to

a) write a one-shot revolving around the plot of my current fic. "The Island"

b) write a one shot of the reader's choice, or,

c) reveal the entire plot, including ending (20 extra chapters in all) to a reader if they so desired.

Not sure if anyone would like it, but I would love to help. In USD as noted from the post.

This is lovely, but you need to post it here.

FYI, the number of comments in the second word post is getting large (I think it's ~1500), so you may want to make a third words post.

I got panicky yesterday when I thought the cap was 5000 comments. But it's really 10,000 now (thank you, ohnotheydidnt!) so I think it'll be ok. If it's over 3000 by Saturday, though, we'll add a new thread.

If you the highest bidder when do you have to donate by? As I don't get paid until the 29th Jan and that is really the only time I can donate (flat broke).

Generally, we are asking for donations to be made by January 23, but before you bid, ask the Offeror(s) if they're ok with it being later. If they are, it's ok.

Can I advertise this com on the lj sites I'm a member of?

As long as it's ok with those comm mods, definitely!

Why is the thread moving?

I am having a technical problem- when I respond to a comment, I can't read what I wrote or find the thread I was posting to, because the thread seems to be moving. Like if I respond to thread 456432 by lomon, then when when the comment posts it shows thread 456432 is by clash and I can't find the thread. I have never seen lj do this before.

Re: Why is the thread moving?

I'm not sure either. You need to ask LJ Support, but I would love to know the answer if they can tell you.

was just wondering if you had a twitter I could follow, and if you didn't, would u like me to create one for you?

Bryce & Casey Would Approve!

Brilliant suggestion. We are now at Help_Haiti_LJ and I added it to the comm's Link List.
